Audience Engagement Research - HOOP

Image
HOOP magazine and my magazine both target specifically to basketball content. HOOP targets through Instagram as well. Their page is not as big but their magazine is also not as big as ESPN or Sports Illustrated.

Audience Engagement Research - Sports Illustrated

Image
Sports Illustrated  and my magazine have similar audiences, we both cater to people interested in sports.  Sports Illustrated  markets their magazine through Instagram. Instagram is a really effective way to gain subscribers, especially younger subscribers. An Instagram account for 'Sota Sports would be a really successful way for to get publicity from our readers which are mostly high school students.

Indesign Class Activity

Image
Today in class we utilized Adobe Indesign to lay out our 2 page spread. At first I was confused and overwhelmed at first but now it makes more sense. I think I will continue to edit my magazine on Indesign because it has more options and it might even be a little easier to use once you get the hang of it.

Audience Engagement Research - ESPN

Image
ESPN and my magazine have similar audiences, we both cater to people interested in sports. ESPN markets their magazine through social medias like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. They also advertise their magazine through the ESPN TV channel. My favorite advertisement technique that they have used is a billboard. I think it stands out and will catch drivers attention. This billboard is from December of 2018.

First Revision

Image
My first revision was adding page numbers. Every magazine needs them and it slipped my mind the first time.

My Target Audience

My magazine targets high school students, parents and scouts (anyone related to a Sarasota High School athletes). In all the magazines I reviewed, they have a bigger audience compared to mine. But, all of them have a similar audience that are all interested in sports.

Feedback & Revisions

My magazine got pretty good feedback but I do have a couple of revisions to make. The main correction that we need to make as a group is to make sure our magazines have a more staple look. By this I mean we need to use the same fonts, colors & font sizes. We also should probably pick some less standard font titles. I personally might want to look into a new software to produce my magazine on so it looks more professional. Another correction I need to make is adding page numbers.

Use of Conventions

My magazine project uses conventions from ESPN magazine. The title placement, "'Sota Sports" in the same location as their title. Just like their magazine, it is clear what addition of the article it is. My magazine stands out because it provides 3 different interviews with valuable players. The pictures of the plays attract people especially guys.
